BLAIR KATHERINE LAURENT.
HUMAN . seventeen . NINA DOBREV
"baby i can see your halo, you know you're my saving grace."
Blair Katherine is the second born to the Laurent family. Her birthday is 10.10.90 and she's seventeen. She had one brother, Matt, and up until two years ago they were a happy little family that resided in Forks and lived a normal life. Matt was three years older than Blair, and for his 18th birthday his friends decided to go on a camping trip. Four of them, including Matt, chose someplace to start their camp near the woods. They said it was an accident, his friends told the police that they were just fooling around the cliffs and that they weren't fully aware of the danger. They were getting to close and all it took was placing your foot in the wrong place. The slippery rocks under Matt's legs caused them to fail and he slipped and fell all the way down into the sea. For a while, he was reported as missing, but as time went by the cops started to lose hope. His body was never found even though they searched the sea several times. Blair's parents were devastated and the family never fully recovered from their loss.
Before Matt went missing, Blair was daddy's spoiled little girl. She used to be the dream student of every teacher – high grades, very popular and full of life. Naturally, after Matt's disappearance things began to change. Her whole perspective was changing – darkening. Blair ditched most of her friends- avoided the guys who wanted to take her out and skipped school days. As a result – her grades started to sink and she was failing a few classes. Everybody knew everything about everyone in a small town such as Forks – so it was easy to guess what caused this girl's heartbreak. Those were the hardest couple of years she had to go through. She regretted every fight she ever had with Matt, she regretted saying horrible things to him just because it took him too long in the shower every morning. She wished she just had the chance to say goodbye properly, and she wished she wouldn’t have given him the faint, apathetic wave she gave him before he left for the woods. Ever since then, life had lost all colors and all she was left with were different shades of gray. Blair refused to see a shrink, at the age of sixteen she used to have weekly sessions with the school's social worker – but at the beginning of Junior year she decided to quit since it didn’t help her anyway. All these philosophical questions about life were hitting in the fact one after another and she wasn’t ready yet. No one knew about her mental breakdown, because on the surface everything looked fine.
Over all appearance: Blair has very distinct facial features and dark skin that looks like she's got a suntan – which isn’t typical to the usual weather in Forks. She has a small pointy nose and medium sized lips, usually with glossy of dark lipstick on them. Her long, curly lashes frame her dark brown eyes beautifully, giving them a dramatic look. She has straight brown hair that falls down to the middle of her back – sometimes she likes to curl it a little so it looks a bit shorter. Her fashion style is pretty casual, she usually likes to wear baby blue or dark blue jeans. Most of the time you can see her in a pair of jeans and a thick sweatshirt to keep her warm. When she goes for a run in the afternoons, she usually wears a big t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. Her favorite things to do are: reading, sleeping, watching movies, running and drawing. She used to draw a lot before Matt went missing, it used to calm her down. Somehow, when she picks up a pen or a pencil these days, she feels useless and gives it up before she's even half way through with it. She once started to write a diary about Matt, but her parents found it and when they read it she got into a fight with them. After not speaking to her parents for almost a week – Blair figured a diary wouldn’t be an effective way to let her emotions out and gave it up. She is generally opinionated, faithful and protective of her friends. Her main weaknesses are that she can get very insecure, proud or jealous.
In the present, Blair isn’t the most social person around. She has a few friends but she wouldn’t mind sitting alone with her music player or a book. She's starting to see the world with brand new eyes. The wound, which is the loss of her brother, is still there and will forever remain. But Blair was getting sick of being depressed and pessimistic all the time – she decided that she had enough to that and wants to have a normal life. As normal as possible. She's pretty alienated from her parents, even though they care for her dearly. She grew up to be this shy, insecure person and is now used to deal with problems on her own. She's a very good friend to those she considers as her friends – she listens and always gives an advice if she thinks it might turn things better. Her new attitude for life is that everything happens for a reason and for the best. She thinks about death often, but she doesn’t want to die anymore. Back in the days, she used to crawl into a ball under the sheets in her bed and cry herself to sleep – wishing she wouldn’t wake up the following day. Today, when she gets up in the morning she searches for the sun through her bedroom window. Even if the weather outside is clouded or rainy – she does her best to find the littlest rays and smile at them. She begins every day with new hope for a better life, and she wants to feel again.
She had never fallen in love before, but when she truly cares about someone – she'll give and do anything for them. Blair sees love as something pure, whole, and sacred. If you asked Blair to describe in her own words, the first word she would have chosen is "unconditional". Her love is selfless, brave and above all – knows no boundaries.
It was a pretty unusual sight to wake up to, the sun rays were bursting through the half-opened shutters, caressing the warm skin of the brunette in her bed. She rolled on her back, feeling the sudden light in her face and frowning in response. A soft knock on her bedroom door finally made her open her eyes. "Blair, I'll be late for work. Get up." her mother called out from the hall and went to complete her usual morning tasks. "I'm up!" Blair shouted back and dragged herself out of bed, leaving the sheets behind and entering into the shower. It was just another day in her Junior year. She promised herself this year would be different, and she intended to do everything in her power to keep this promise. 'The sun is shining, the birds are singing and I have absolutely no reason to feel depressed.' She kept saying to herself and she pulled out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and put them on. Blair browsed her long brown hair and pulled it up in a quick ponytail, throwing the hair brush on her bed upon hearing her mother honking in the garage.
She snatched her bag pack and walked through the front door – not forgetting to lock behind her. Blair knew her mother was getting very impatient so she started to run lightly towards the car and into the passenger seat. "Did you lock the door?" her mother made sure with a careful look on her face. "Yes, mom." Blair nodded impatiently and they finally drove off. Ever since Matt disappeared, its like their daily lives weren't really "living". More like trying to keep it together, just to make it through another day. Her father used to leave for work before the sunrise and often came back after sunset. Those days passed by too slowly, and Blair couldn’t believe it has been almost two years since he was announced missing. "Have a good day." Her mother said with a small smile as Blair walked out of the car. "You too, mom." She replied, smiling back at her. So much sadness was trapped in her mother's eyes, she looked like the whole world was resting on her shoulders. She looked weary. Blair watched as her mother turned the wheel and drove off. "I love you mom." She whispered in the empty parking lot, with the wind in her hair and a prayer in her heart.
Trying to concentrate on the new poem in literature class was harder than ever, and Blair found herself wandering off in her mind several times. She tried to follow the teacher but her thoughts kept sweeping her, Matt's face kept coming into her mind, and these flashbacks refused to leave her alone. Quietly, Blair raised her left hand and waited until the teacher finally noticed. "Can I go to the bathroom?" She asked almost soundlessly, feeling her cheeks burning and her stomach flipping. "Yes." the teacher replied briefly and started reading the poem infront of the class. Blair left the room, feeling the pressure in her chest slowly fading away.
