APPEARANCE:
escribed as ‘angelic’ by most, Edward easily commands the attention of those around him, male and female alike. His unruly bronze hair stands out in sharp contrast to his flawless marble skin and his eyes, once green in his past life, now flow between a liquid amber when he has fed and coal black. Dark circles frame these orbs and grow worse with hunger, almost giving them a slightly bruised look, but never detracting from his angelic appearance. Though far more slight in stature than Emmett, his height of 6’2 adds all the more to the ‘god-like’ aura that surrounds him, allowing him to tower over most of the students at Forks High.
Generally speaking, Edward dresses in much lighter colors than one might expect, preferring that to the dark, brooding vampires in old novels. He is fond of blue and finds himself quite comfortable in a pair of dark jeans and button up shirts. At times he goes a bit more casual, especially when playing a game of baseball with his family, but for the most part he is quite neat. Though he has no need to keep out the cold, Edward dawns a jacket to keep up appearances in the colder months Forks experiences. Finally, he wears a black watch on his right wrist, preferring not to be late if at all possible.
PERSONALITY:
In terms of book psychology, Edward is a typical ISTJ. A rather quiet and reserved individual, Edward is typically interested in security and peaceful living. His primary mode of living is focused internally, where he takes things in with his five senses in a literal, concrete fashion. His secondary mode of living is external, where he deals with things rationally and logically. He has a strongly-felt internal sense of duty, which lends him to a serious air and the motivation to follow through on tasks. Organized and methodical in his approach, he can generally succeed at any task which he undertakes.
Edward is very loyal, faithful, and dependable. He places great importance on honesty and integrity. He is a "good citizen" type who can be depended on to do the right thing for his family and community, a fact clearly seen in his endeavors to feed off the evil of the world during his time of rebellion.. While he generally takes things very seriously, he also usually has an offbeat sense of humor and can be a lot of fun - especially around his family and friends.
Edward tends to believe in laws and traditions, and expects the same from others. He is not comfortable with breaking laws or going against the rules, especially now that he is older. If he is able to see a good reason for stepping outside of the established mode of doing things, he will support that effort. However, Edward more often tends to believe that things should be done according to procedures and plans. Often times he may become overly obsessed with structure, and insist on doing everything "by the book".
Edward is extremely dependable on following through with things which he has promised. Because he has such a strong sense of duty, he may have a difficult time saying "no" when he is given more work than he can reasonably handle. Edward will work for long periods of time and put tremendous amounts of energy into doing any task which he sees as important to fulfilling a goal. However, he will resist putting energy into things which don't make sense to him, or for which he can't see a practical application. Edward prefers to work alone, but works well in teams when the situation demands it. He like to be accountable for his actions, and enjoys being in a position of authority. However, he is willing to submit to authority when the situation demands it.
Edward has a tremendous respect for facts. He holds a tremendous store of facts within himself, having been through college a few times, and may have difficulty understanding a theory or idea which is different from his own perspective. However, if he is shown the importance or relevance of the idea to someone who he respects or cares about, the idea becomes a fact, which Edward will internalize and support. Once he supports a cause or idea, he will stop at no lengths to ensure that he is doing his duty of giving support where support is needed.
Edward is extremely faithful and loyal. Traditional and family-minded, he will put forth great amounts of effort at making his home and family run smoothly. He takes his role in any situation seriously, whether it be brother, son, or ‘lover’. He cares deeply about those close to him. He is a very hard worker, who does not allow obstacles to get in the way of performing his duties. He does not usually give himself enough credit for his achievements, seeing his accomplishments simply as the natural fulfillment of his obligations.
Under stress, Edward may fall into "catastrophe mode", where he sees nothing but all of the possibilities of what could go wrong. He will berate himself for things which he should have done differently, or duties which he failed to perform. However, he can typically calm himself to the point of moving forward, despite the visions of doom looming in his mind.
HISTORY:
arren. The doctors long believed that Elizabeth Masen, wife of the successful lawyer Edward Masen, was barren never to be blessed with children. But like a gift from God, the disappointed parents conceived, and on June 20, 1901 Edward Anthony Masen made his grand entrance into the world. Doctors proclaimed him a miracle child, born against all odds, and his almost angelic appearance seemed to support their case. Though small, born nearly a month before his due date, Edward captured the attention of all those around him, his eyes oddly perceptive for a newborn, his quietness most unusual.
Growing up the young man showed signs of incredible perception, able to guess a person’s mood or thought even before a word was spoken, and his father hoped sincerely for his son to attend law school. However, as frightening stories of war breeding in Europe filled the air, both parents worried that soon their only child would be drafted and sent away to die in the trenches of strange and unknown lands. The age had just been lowered to 18, and soon their boy would be in danger. Though both believed in service to their country, as all good citizens did, Edward was their only son...
But by September 1918, the unthinkable happened. Amidst the tales of war, fear began to spread over the Spanish influenza, and soon it hit the Masen family. Edward senior was taken first, leaving his wife and son to fight for their lives in the hospital. Elizabeth worked to nurse her son, appearing much stronger and the more likely of the two to survive, but in the end her efforts wore her out, and in the last moments of her life, she begged their attending physician, Carlisle Cullen, to save her miracle child. The day she died, Carlisle took Edward back to his home and changed him there.
Coming through the fire with the ability to see into the minds of others, Edward understood quite quickly Carlisle’s reasons for his actions. Though he mourned his parents, dealing with thirst and Carlisle’s vegetarian life style allowed for distraction. For years he struggled with suppressing his new nature, not quite understanding the point of abstaining from human blood, but never challenging his new father. Rebellion won over in the end a few years after Esme joined them, and this sent Edward off on his own, hunting only the truly despicable. Eventually, however, the young vampire found that he could not justify his actions for long, could not justify killing the way he did, could not take the responsibility of being ‘god’, and soon went back to the Cullens who welcomed him with open arms.
The next few years they spent as a family, joined by Rosalie in 1933, Emmett in 1935, and Alice and Jasper in 1948. Though Rose had initially been brought in as a companion for Edward, neither even felt a connection to the other. In truth, when she found Emmett, Edward felt quite a weight lifted from his shoulders. In 1936, the family, short of Alice and Jasper, traveled to Forks where they met the Quileute Indians who they found to have the ability to shift into wolves. Wishing for peace among them, the Cullens and the tribe formed a treaty; the Quileute would leave them alone so long as they didn’t bite any humans and stayed off their land.
Over the next few years, the Cullens traveled, meeting another coven of vampires in Denali, Alaska. Almost immediately, one of the females in this coven, Tanya, began to develop feelings for him. For months he rejected her advances, having little interest whatsoever, but eventually his loneliness took it’s toll and he chose to give her the chance she’s been waiting for, but only with the understanding that he planned to remain abstinent until marriage. Eventually, both families moved to Forks to start over again, Carlisle becoming the town doctor yet again. Here he met Bella Swan and just the sight and scent of her drove him nuts. He was unwilling to be with her at first because of a fear of him hurting her, but he eventually allowed it to happen. After the tracker James was defeated his escorted Bella to prom, where she confronted him about becoming a vampire. He refused and thankfully the subject wasn't brought up for awhile. At her birthday party, when Jasper attacked her, he knew it was time for a change and, though he was unwilling, he moved with his family to LA, though he romed. He attempted to commit suicide when he thought Bella was dead, but she stopped him before he could and is now ordered by the Volturi to turn her into a vampire. He is still unwilling, though now the two are engaged, so it will be easier.
She needed to get out, perhaps it was the fact that the floodgates had indeed opened and he no longer found the need to pretend that this wasn’t his right anymore a good enough reason to stop himself from doing whatever it was to ensure her safety, he couldn’t for the …existence of them figure out what the hell her logic was. Yes, even in his slightly frantic mindset Edward could understand that Bella Swan needed space, how the hell wouldn’t she? This plan had been a disaster from the moment it was set in motion and he knew this. God he knew it, and he knew now that perhaps he should have pushed on not coming. While Bella claimed that she wanted him a part of her life, which he was incredibly grateful for no doubt, he couldn’t imagine living without seeing her ever again- him being in Florida wasn’t a good idea. She was on edge with Jacob, her boyfriend, while she was on vacation with her mother and aforementioned boyfriend and her ex. Was it not normal for humans and their exes to be on bad terms? It had to be more normal than this, the side glances, the torment, the wishing that he could do something but not wanting to jeopardize her happiness. Bella had every right to want some form of escape some way to get away from the situation she currently found herself in- but going out the window? His jaw clenched slightly as he held her a bit more protectively against his chest not willing to let go just yet. She had tried to go out the window! There was a staircase and a front door completely accessible to her and she chose to try and use the window. Would he ever understand the way her thought process worked? “Are you even listening to a word I’m saying?”[/size]
This had been by far one of the worst possible things she had thought of in a long while. He had suppressed the urge to try and shake some sort of sense to her awhile ago, but it was times like these where he felt himself grow incredibly irritated at her lack of self preservation and her stubbornness. Perhaps it was time for him to really start to understand the fact that he was never going to understand why Bella chose to do things the way she did. But God forbid she use the front door to leave, it wasn’t like he would have stopped her if she requested she needed to be alone. Not that she would be alone, which would most likely defeat the purpose, but if she didn’t know any better how could she really complain? Edward breathed in her scent slowly through his nose, his eyes closing as he relaxed minimally. No, there was no lasting desire to ‘drink her dry’ so to speak. His body tensed although it would be hardly noticeable to the human girl as his mind conjured up the image he had believed to be true only a few months ago. The image of Bella, cold…white, dead, it was engraved in his mind and the thought of it being because of him- the small image of a bite mark caused by his own teeth- His body shied away almost instantaneously from the pain that it brought. Edward could not live without her there was no reason, or purpose without her. Isabella Swan was his purpose, reason, heart, soul…Anything and everything that a person could be to another and more. And still he had promised that if there ever came a time when she had moved on, he would step back into the shadows. Despite how much it would hurt to step back, play the role of best friend it didn’t matter. He would be in her life for as long as she wanted him there.
He heard his name being called softly and the second he felt her pulling away he loosed his grip so she would be able to do whatever she so chose. Edward wasn’t going to tempt himself in remembering that his strength would be able to keep her there if he wanted to, but how could he. If she wanted to step back and get away, he certainly wasn’t going to stop her. He would just stand in front of the window and hopefully make her take the more conventional route. If not for her better good, but for his peace of mind. “The stairs next time, please.” His voice was softer, much less panicked then it had been moments before as he reached out to wipe her face gently. Edward wasn’t given much a change to attempt to comfort her however, and the second her arms wrapped around his neck and she hugged him his arms hesitantly wrapped around her in an embrace- wanting to keep her there for as long as possible. It felt right, almost like a piece of his body had been missing and the second she molded against him he felt whole again. Sighing softly he returned the hug a bit more confidently his hands rubbing her back gently in a soothing manner. He was going to murder Rose for whatever she had said to cause Bella to be so upset- this was supposed to have been a happy vacation for her with her Mother, and now he wasn’t entirely sure how ruined that was. The impressive string of curses that were running through his thoughts were cut off the second he felt her warm lips press against his cheek. God he had missed that feeling and he was thankful for whatever reason Bella had come up with to determine that he had deserved that, despite his atrocious behavior.
Edward’s topaz eyes, thanks to the small hunt he had gone on the night before, were swimming with confusion as he watched Bella pull away from him yet again, his hand reaching up to brush a stray tear that she missed. Would she open her eyes for him if he asked? If there was anything that Edward wished for in that moment it was that she would open her eyes so he could see her- so she wasn’t hiding from him in this very moment. He had gone far too long without seeing her eyes in this sort of intimate setting to not be able to see them now, and when the next words fell from her lips…The sheer, there just weren’t words for it! The rush of emotions hit him fast and intensely, the amount of love he felt for her, the happiness of hearing her say it again when he thought he would never hear those words from her ever again. And there was the intense feeling of just feeling, right…That seemed to overcome him as he stepped even closer to her both of his hands resting on her cheeks gently, this thumbs brushing over her soft skin. She loved him. Edward could hear it a million times and still want to hear it more as his crooked smile, the smile that seemed to be reserved for her appeared.
“Bella? Bella, sweetheart…Open your eyes for me, please.” She loved him. “Please look at me.” She loved him. While he knew that Bella had still felt feelings for him- she had mentioned it on the instant messenger in a few rare mess ups, but hearing it from her lips when he had convinced himself that he wasn’t going to ever again? She had slowly destroyed all of his walls he had built to protect himself and her from whatever could have come from the situation. “I love you,” his sincerity rang true in every word as his lips pressed against her forehead. “I love you,” and this time his lips pressed against her left cheek. And once again the phrase was uttered before he pressed another kiss against her right cheek this time. Was he taking a page out of Bella’s own Mr. Darcy’s book? It was a definite probability, but his lips didn’t move to hers just yet. He wanted to see her eyes, and he wanted her to be able to see him when he said the next ‘I love you’, before he kissed her. He moved his head back slowly, his thumb brushing gently against her cheek again as he waited for her to respond. ”I love you Bella, only you.”
