Jane and her twin brother, Alec, were turned at the age of sixteen by the Volturi members at 1300 B.C. While they were still human, the Volturi noticed their potential to become powerful vampires and decided to change them, thus – giving the coven more power. Jane and her twin were the only children to a rich, aristocrat family in Romania, Transylvania. As spoiled little kids, Jane and Alec used to give the maids and servants hell, they'd pull nasty tricks and maltreat them whenever they had the chance to. One night, the twins noticed a rampage bursting in town, and before they could even decide what to do – they were taken by the village people. If someone was suspected as a wizard or witch, if there was any doubt or relation to witchcraft - they were killed. The rioters intended to burn the twins on the stake when suddenly the Volturi revealed themselves and killed the whole village too – saving the twins. A new hope suddenly was offered to the twins, and when they realized the human world had nothing to offer – they agreed to join the bloodthirsty coven. As humans, Jane and Alec's bond was very strong, they were best friends and could almost sense the other. When one of them was hurt the other felt pain, they had some sort of telepathy between them. Immortality only sharpened their bond and they grew even closer – turning to be the most powerful vampires the Volturi has – their secret weapon. Jane and Alec are considered as the Volturi's secret weapon along with Felix and Demetri.
Living with the Volturi had its benefits, Jane was trained and fed on human blood for thousands of years – which allowed her to become one of the most ancient and most powerful vampires today. Her special power is the ability to create the illusion of pure, excruciating pain in every living creature. The power is transferred through her eyes, and only by looking at the victim she can control, increase or decrease the amount of pain the victim would feel. This weapon is extremely deadly. Jane's power matches her cruel personality and traits. She is obedient to her adored master – Aro. Very strong willed and takes pleasure in causing other people or vampires pain. She never hesitates before showing off her power and displaying her abilities. Jane is a perfectionist and if something goes wrong or she can't do something right she is very strict with herself. Jane feeds on human blood with no remorse, most of her victims enter the famous museum in Volterra by daylight but never come out, on rare occasions she goes out by night for hunting purposes.
Jane and the Cullens share a mutual, strong dislike towards each other. In general, Jane has no respect for a vampire who fights against his nature by feeding upon animals' blood only. She considers vegetarian vampires as weak, pathetic creatures who can't handle what they really are, and crack under the pressure of their own guilty conscious. The person Jane is disturbed with the most is Bella Swan, she sees her as a real threat to the vampires world – since the Cullens share their secret with her. Another reason for Jane's hatred is the fact that Bella is completely immune to her power, and Jane's wicked gift is practically neutralized by Bella's mental shield.
A rush of authority and a tingling excitement flooded Jane's small form as her master finally addressed her. "Shall we, Jane?" he said, titling his head to the right and rubbing his palms together impatiently. Aro failed in reading the little human's thoughts, and Jane was determined to prove her power was stronger, she felt confident enough - knowing that in a few seconds she'll be screaming at the top of her lungs. In the blink of an eye, Jane turned her head towards Bella, but Edward intervened. He stood right in the middle, stepping exactly into Jane's view and creating a brave eye contact. Jane continued with her treatment, nonetheless.[/size]
"Pain." She said, plain and simple. Suddenly, Edward's expression turned petrified, agonized. His eyes were blank and his lips twitched in pure, excruciating pain. He stood paralyzed in his place, not able to take even one step ahead. His shoulders were taken aback and his chest shivering with shocks of agony. He closed his eyes, becoming weaker and weaker with every movement he was trying to make. The veins in his throat threatened to pop out from underneath his white skin, he kept trembling uncontrollably for a few moments which seemed like a blissful eternity to Jane. The hall was silent, she could hear the only human's strong, pounding heartbeats. She was helpless – and Jane knew, that by hurting Edward – she was already hurting her.
"Stop!" Bella finally called out, and Jane could almost predict this comment. The human brunette kept protesting, "Just stop hurting him, please!" Bella cried out over and over. Jane could hear her making a first step towards Edward who was now lying motionless on the floor. Alec came to his sister help instantly, his cold hand reaching for Bella's wrist and groping firmly, keeping her out of the way. "Please!" Bella kept begging in Alec's arms, her brown eyes full of fear and helplessness. So fragile, so easy to corrupt. Her straight brown hair swayed on her shoulders as she tried to push Alec away in vain. He was irremovable, and a thousands times stronger than she was. The blond girl, however, didn’t break the eye contact – not for a split second. She was evil to the bone, and had one mission to accomplish – displaying her power. Jane kept torturing the weakened vampire on the marvel floor when suddenly the black-haired vampire spoke. "Jane?" Aro's voice cut Bella's pleading, coming out as loud as a whisper.
Jane blinked and finally turned away to meet the crimson eyes of her master. "Master." She responded, awaiting to his guidance. "Go ahead, my dear." He finally approved, and Jane turned to look at Bella's direction. Alec was still holding her, while Alice bent over Edward worried and disturbed. Jane had finally sat her bloody eyes on the mortal girl and smiled almost shyly. The moment she was waiting for had finally arrived, and she intended to enjoy it as much as she could. "This might hurt just a little." Jane said softly, sounding perfectly peaceful. Bella was staring back, looking almost brave. But Jane wasn’t fooled by her poker face – she could hear the heart pounding frantically in her chest, and her breath coming out shallow and fast from between her rosy lips.
Jane focused on Isabella's dark brown eyes with her own crimson ones - getting ready to give her hell.
